Find a therapist who specializes in trauma. You may find one under 'find a therapist' on the ISSTD website:
www.isst-d.org
Also, you may try working with an EMDR therapist - they do well with simple trauma (as opposed to long-term traumas like life-long physical and sexual abuse, or torture).
One of the main things you will need to do is be able to stay present and talk about what happened to you, feel the emotions, and work your way to resolution. When you've gotten through it, you'll be able to talk about it without coming unglued, or being emotionally disengaged.
Medication can be helpful to allow you to be able to talk without too much anxiety or depression. It can assist you, but it, alone, won't cure you.
Do the work - when you have, you will become a wiser, deeper, more compassionate and better person.
References :
I'm a clinical psychologist.

See PTSD, treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 33. Various medications may be prescribed, but always check them out, at www.drugs.com so you know what side effects to look out for.
References :
There's a new drug out that disconnects the feelings from the memory, so that the memory will not terrify you.

It's called Propranolol.

You go to a lot of therapy while on it.

Google it.
