What is post traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) treatment like?
I haven’t been officially diagnosed with PSTD but my therapist thinks that the same kind of treatment will work for me to deal with traumatic events that I experienced. He said we would be "reliving" the events at my appointments by going over all the details and talking about the emotions I had at the time, how I feel now, and then trying to reframe the events to make them easier to deal with.
Has anyone ever experienced this or know what exactly it is called. I’m pretty nervous to start this process and just want to know what to expect. Can anyone tell me what it is like and if it helped?
Only respectful answers please. Thanks.
Yes it does help if you are honest and open with the doctor. I have had PTSD since I crushed my hand in ‘95. I dreamed about the night I crushed my hand and about little children that were about to be killed and I couldn’t help them for some reason.
Anyway, I went to a couple doctors back then that really helped me with the dreaming and depression that went along with all of it. Come to find out, I had PTSD from my childhood that was still harboring within me.
I now have a couple doctors I talk to about things and it really seems to keep me focused!
The doctor will do what he said he would do, mostly talk to you about things. If you feel like crying, do it, it makes you feel much better in the long run.
Hope this helps!
Best of Luck!!
