The mechanism is the adrenals. When under stress they put out much more hormone. That’s why after a scare one’s heart races.
Eventually if stress isn’t resolved or at least dealt with, the glandular system wears thin. I am fairly certain why autoimmune diseases are triggered by continual stresses.
